In some sick, deranged way, I was almost glad Cathy was there to antagonize me at every step. I was never one of those girls who had an arch-nemesis in high school or even in college. Perhaps I’d had one at some point, but it barely counted as anything. It was merely a childhood thing that had died a slow death.
