The book club was my excuse to reconnect with my inner self. I'd always been told that I was very detached, cold, and simply too playful regarding serious matters. What could I do? What could I say? Everyone had a quirk that made them slightly distasteful to the next person. Mine, obviously, was my playfulness, which, as far as I was concerned, meant little to nothing.
I rolled my eyes, sitting amongst the women in the book club, wondering just how I ended up there. Why did I sign up for this? I mentally poked myself in the arm with a metaphorical pole. Why did you do it? I kept asking myself, finding no reasonable answer.
