Chapter 10 Do You Think I’ll Accept?
“Take her to the hospital.”
Mason’s icy voice fell on her body like hail. “Check to see if she’s pregnant or not, and tell me the results once they’re out.”
Simon nodded immediately. “Yes sir!”
“No!” Claire struggled even harder. “Mason Yeich, we’re just a couple in name only. What gives you the right to treat me this way? Let me go!”
“Let you go?” Mason’s gaze was cool and his tone indifferent. “If I find out you’re pregnant, you should be clear of the consequences. Simon, take her away.”
After knowing that she was not the person he was looking for, Mason did not even have the slightest bit of pity for Claire.
“Hurry up, take her to the hospital for a check-up.”
Simon was busy gesturing.
Despite Claire’s reluctance, she was soon brought out and stuffed into the car.
Claire was extremely resistant to the whole journey, but she could not break free of their restraints. In the end, she was forcibly taken to the hospital again, where she met with the doctor from before.
As the same group of people returned, those who had witnessed the scene beforehand automatically retreated to one side.
These people looked fierce and vicious, they seemed to be forces to be reckoned with.
No one wanted to draw attention to themselves.
Claire did not know how long the entire process took, but she was forced to accept it.
When it all ended, she was brought along with the report to meet Mason.
Simon had a grim expression on his face. After giving Claire a sympathetic look, he handed the report to Mason.
Mason did not reach out to take it, merely asking in a cool voice, “What are the results?”
Simon paused before saying, “She is pregnant indeed.”
In that instance, Claire felt that her shields, which she had managed to erect with much difficulty, had all been destroyed.
Now that Mason knew she was pregnant, how could she continue staying in the Yeich family?
Sure enough, Mason’s gaze hardened and became as sharp as a knife. “Hah, you want I, Mason Yeich to pick up your scraps? You don’t have the qualifications to do that yet.”
Claire raised her eyes and looked at him helplessly.
“Can you give a little more time? I had no idea I was pregnant.”
“Oh?” Mason raised his eyebrow. “You wanted to tell me, you had no idea, you were going to the hospital to abort your child?”
Claire started as she heard his words.
She would admit that she wanted to handle this situation in silence.
However, the thought to abort the child had never appeared in her mind.
Mason reached out and gripped her chin, his eyes as dark as the skies before a storm. “Why don’t I give you another chance? If you want to stay in the Yeich family, abort the child.”
Claire’s eyes widened slowly. Abort the child?
“N...no!”
“No?” Mason gave her a jeering look. “You don’t really think that I, Mason Yeich, would accept a wild child, do you?”
A wild… wild child?
Claire’s pale lips quivered slightly.
She had never thought that she would become pregnant.
“So? Have you thought it through?” Mason’s eyes were cold and cruel, the words he uttered laced with poison. “You don’t think that if you marry into Yeich family with the child you have with your ex-husband, I, Mason Yeich, would fall accept you, right? Or do you look down on me because I’m a disabled person?”
Claire shook her head.
“I never thought of that.”
She had no idea that she would be pregnant! Two years with Joshua, and he had never touched her!
How could she have known that she would lose her virginity on that rainy night? Or that she would become pregnant after just once?
Everything pressed themselves against Claire’s shoulders, like collapsing walls.
“Please!” Although Claire had thought she would not get pregnant, there was the possibility that she would not be able to continue living with the Yeich family if she did get pregnant. She might even be escorted back to the Schmidt family, where they would become the laughingstock of North City.
“Give me some more time!”
“Alright.” Mason’s smile dripped with malice. “It is true that more time should be given to vain women like you. How about this, I’ll give you three days, and you’ll have to get rid of it yourself.”
Claire’s eyes widened.
“If that wild child is still in your stomach at the end of three days, you’ll have to get the f*ck out of the Yeich family.”
He left with Simon pushing his wheelchair after he had finished speaking.
Claire was the only one left alone at the scene. She fell to the ground, her limbs freezing.
After a long time, Claire got out her phone and dialed her best friend’s number with shaking hands.
Half an hour later, Claire’s best friend, Sophia Hall, drove down and picked her up.
Claire was brought home in a daze by Sophia.
“Alright, tell me, what’s going on?” Sophia poured her a glass of juice. “To calm you down.”
Claire accepted the glass but put it down without taking a sip.
There was a tiny life in her belly, it would be wise for her not to drink too many cold drinks.
She was startled when the notion came up in her mind.
Why did she… care so much for that child?
“What’s wrong? Wasn’t this your favorite drink?” Sophia raised her eyebrows in astonishment as she watched Claire place the glass down.
“I can’t drink it anymore.”
“Why?”
“I’m pregnant.”
Sophia did not react at first but nodded after a few moments. “That’s fine. You’ve been married for two years, it’s high time you got pregnant.”
“I got divorced a month ago.”
“What?”
“And I just remarried recently.”
“Wait, Claire Schmidt, can you slow down? Divorce and marriage? What are you playing at? Let me process it first.”
Sophia placed her hand on her chest, looking shocked.
Claire had to tell Sophia a rough timeline of what had happened lately before she understood. “So, now you’re the Second Young Madam of the Yeich family?”
“Just a titular one, perhaps for not much longer.”
“I’ll choke you to death.”
Sophia jumped to her feet and pretended to choke her fair neck. “Such big news and you’ve only decided to tell me now? Are we even still friends? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“It happened so suddenly, I didn’t know how to tell you.”
“Well, you still had to tell me, for such serious matters.” After thinking for a moment, Sophia said in a cool voice, “I’ll accompany you to the hospital when you abort the baby.”
Claire raised her head abruptly when she heard that. “Abort the baby?”
“You want to keep it? It’s a stranger’s child! Clairy, don’t be foolish, you have no idea what kind of person that man is, you must abort the baby!”
Sophia spoke seriously.
“Wouldn’t it be too cruel to abort when a life has already formed in my stomach?”
Claire looked down at her stomach as she cradled it gently. “It is, after all, another tiny life.”
“Don’t think too much. It’s just a month old, it’s not even alive yet! If you don’t abort it now and wait for a few more months, you’ll regret it!” Sophia grew even more impatient as she spoke. “What are you thinking about? That’s the child of an unknown man. If you don’t abort it, you can’t stay with the Yeich family. If you return to the Schmidt family, do you think your parents will forgive you?”
These words struck a chord in Claire. She raised her head abruptly and made eye contact with Sophia.
Did that mean, there was nothing else she could do?
