Amalia walked back to the ship, knowing she had forgotten something. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but the feeling persisted. As she entered her cabin, it hit her—the scarf. The one her mother gave her before she died. It was something she always carried, often wrapped around her face, though she couldn’t explain why. There was just a strange attachment to it.
She found the scarf, tied it around her head, and made her way back toward the shore. As she descended the stairs, she suddenly slipped. She felt herself falling toward the water, but then stopped mid-air. Strong arms wrapped around her waist, holding her in place. Amalia raised her eyes and found his—Connor’s—just as he lowered her gently to the ground.
