CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN – A LITTLE BIT OF TLC
After a whirlwind tour that ended with a demonstration of the finicky faucet that spat out cold water in unpredictable bursts, Scarlett knew what she had to do.
“Alright, Linda,” she said, forcing another smile. “I think I’ll take it.”
Linda’s face broke into a wide grin. “Wonderful! I knew you’d love it! Here’s the paperwork, darling. Just sign on the dotted line and your new life can begin!”
The paperwork was a nightmare of legalese and dubious clauses, but Scarlett signed it, desperately needing a roof over her head. Once the formalities were over, Linda handed her a set of keys and a business card adorned with a comically oversized image of herself.
“There you go! Welcome to the neighborhood, Scarlett! If you need anything at all – a plumber, a good exterminator, maybe even a psychic to cleanse the vibes – don’t hesitate to call, sweetie!”
With that, Linda bounced away, leaving Scarlett alone with her new “cozy” apartment.
