Mr. O'Connor lets his hand drop from my face, and walks around his desk, halting in front of me.
"Brianna," he begins, his eyes beseeching me. "Tell me how to help you." His voice is soft and placating, and for some reason, it makes me cry even harder, clenching my fists and wiping tears and snot from my face.
He takes a careful, awkward step forward and I sniff, peering into his face when he opens his arms and stretches them towards me. "What are you doing?" I cry, hating the break in my voice.
He shrugs. "I give very nice hugs."
"Says who?" I ask, wiping my nose again.
"Tina."
"Who's Tina?"
"You're prying," he mutters, flicking his gaze to the white ceiling. "She's my fiancée." He shakes his head, correcting himself. "Was. She broke up with me."
"I can't imagine why," I say sarcastically and he glares at me, dropping his arms.
