CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY SEVEN – WORSE DAYS IN
Ten minutes later, Mrs. Ramirez was at her door, concern etched on her face. She took in the state of the apartment with wide eyes.
"Oh, my dear," she said softly, pulling Nia into a hug. "What happened?"
Nia shook her head, fighting back tears. "I don't know. It was like this when I got home. Nothing's missing, it's just... a mess."
Mrs. Ramirez's brow furrowed. "We should call the police, Nia. This isn't right."
But Nia hesitated. "I'm not sure they can do anything. There's no real evidence of a crime, just... this." She gestured helplessly at the chaos around them.
Mrs. Ramirez squeezed her hand. "Well, then, let's at least get this place cleaned up. You shouldn't have to look at this mess any longer than necessary."
Together, they began the process of putting Nia's apartment back in order. As they worked, Nia felt a mix of emotions washing over her. Anger at the invasion of her privacy. Fear of what it might mean. But also, gratitude for Mrs. Ramirez's kindness and support.
