Chapter Thirty - Fletcher
Seeing Ava so sad twisted my heart.
The heavy pressure in my chest hurt me so deeply. I turned my fingers tightly around the steering wheel on our way home.
She’d stared out of the passenger side window most of the ride. I wanted to give her more reassuring words but I couldn’t think of anything else to say.
I truly thought Charlotte would eventually come around but I wasn’t sure how soon. She’d seen so pissed when I met her at the restaurant. And apparently, her anger hadn't subsided.
Ava cleared her throat. “Beat anyone else up today?”
I laughed and shook my head. “Not today,” I mumbled. “I’m assuming the Capellos will get the message soon enough. When they find the guy they sent if they haven’t already.”
Ava cut her eyes at me. “Let’s hope so.”
I pulled into the driveway and got out. Ava met me at the hood of the car. “So, what’s this about you cooking?”
I smiled. “Lucinda went over some things with me today. Hopefully, I won’t ruin it.”
