Easton gripped the steering wheel tightly. His unease swelled into full-blown panic.
He slammed his foot on the gas.
The moment he passed the last traffic light, the black Rolls-Royce made a sharp turn and came to a stop in front of a familiar villa.
He exhaled in relief when his gaze landed on the brightly lit house.
Good. Sloane must still be home, waiting for him.
He was the one at fault yesterday. He hadn't realized the fire had started in Sloane's mother's greenhouse. If he had known, he would have stayed with Sloane no matter what she said.
Easton glanced around, then headed toward a nearby pastry shop just outside the villa complex.
Sloane loved mango cake. He, on the other hand, hated mango.
Ever since they got married, Sloane had stopped eating it.
Maybe if he brought her favorite cake, it would make her feel a little better.
With the cake box in hand, he walked back toward the villa. The warm orange glow from inside eased his nerves slightly.
