Baron sat beside me, his arm resting casually along the back of the seat, his fingers grazing my shoulder as he absentmindedly played with a strand of my hair. That had continued for most of the trip. The journey, which usually took five days, had been reduced to a day and a half, and I couldn’t have been more grateful for the uneventful ride. The train moved so quickly that the world outside blurred into a streak of colors. By the time we reached the capital city, with the station not far from the pack house—and even closer to our home—Baylor, Gabriel, and Lyra were waiting for us.
