There was silence—silence in her mind, and perhaps she was ready for that. There was no way she could face Talia now; the thought seemed overwhelming.
“I’m sorry,” she said, looking towards Frederick, Talia's brother. He shook his head.
“Here I was thinking we had a big gift threat to deal with, and now we have curses and magic flying around,” he muttered, his voice low but clear. The weight of his words resonated in her soul. “There are many things in this world unknown to you. Many creatures, many gates. This world is merely a plane, a connection to the next.”
Lucia stepped closer, her heart heavy. “In my short time here, I’ve been privileged to see. There are cracks within our reality.”
Suddenly, Frederick’s face grew pale. “Cracks? That means something is about to break.”
Lucia shook her head. “It’s not like that. By ‘cracks,’ I don’t mean we’re being invaded. I mean there are many beings, many creatures that remain obscured from our eyes.” She walked back to the center
