“I didn’t know birthing twins could be such an interesting event,” I thought out loud as I watched Baron stand beside the new crib, gazing at the twins in my hospital room.
“What did you think was going to happen?” he asked, a curious look on his face.
“You were afraid,” I said, jumping straight to my conclusions.
“That’s not even the half of it,” he said, chuckling and briefly looking away from me to glance at the babies. “I didn’t think the girl would come out fighting like that.”
He walked over to me and sat beside me on the bed. “Why?” I asked, settling into the conversation. “Didn’t you think she would sit down and watch her brother come out first, basking in all the glory?”
“That hardly sounds like a true Blackthorne,” he said with a triumphant grin. “She came out looking for a fight.”
“Besides,” I added, “you wouldn’t have had it any other way, right? You probably prefer that she’s more of a fighter than he is.”
