Chapter 128: The Bitter Visit
Michael hesitated at the door of Gift’s hospital room, a bouquet of flowers in one hand and a heavy weight of guilt in his heart. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for the encounter. As he pushed open the door, the familiar antiseptic scent of the hospital hit him, and he felt his resolve weaken. Gift lay in the bed, looking fragile yet somehow still resilient. Her eyes turned to him as he entered, and he saw a flash of pain and anger in them.
“Gift,” Michael began softly, approaching the bed. “I brought you some flowers.”
Gift’s expression hardened.
“What do you want, Michael?”
Michael set the flowers on the bedside table and took a seat.
“I came to see how you’re doing. And… to apologize.”
Gift let out a bitter laugh. “Apologize? For what? For putting me in this hospital? For using me as a pawn in your twisted games?” Michael winced at her words.
“I’m so sorry, Gift. I never meant for things to get this far. I never wanted to hurt you.”
Gift’s eyes blazed with fury.
