Only Human
I sat on the bed watching the last sun-rays of the day kiss the world beneath it, as everything slowly melted into purples and grays beneath the moonlight.
I sighed, peering around the dark bedroom, my body sore and tired. I wanted so badly to lie down and close my eyes for a nap, but I couldn’t.
I had no idea what these men planned to do with me.
I knew this; that they were under the impression that I was working with those vile, horrendous beasts who had killed Diane. To think this morning was my biggest concern. To get over what I had witnessed and prayed they didn’t come for me. Now?
I got up from the bed and crossed the room toward the window, trying for the hundredth time to find a way to open them. I tried using a chair and a steel dustbin to break out the window, and of course, it was entirely shatterproof.
I needed to find a way out of here.
A click sounded by the door and I quickly dropped my arms, stepping back from the window.
