Since that day, Layla had been struggling to get a good night's sleep.
Every time she shut her eyes, those haunting blood-red eyes of Ashton's would invade her thoughts, making it impossible to find peace.
One night, nightmares jolted her awake three times.
Each time, she would wake up in a cold sweat, and that's when Tristan would wrap her in his warm embrace.
"Don't be scared. I'm right here," he whispered softly.
Layla was trembling and pale, her mind racing.
She looked up at Tristan, who gently brushed her hair back and caressed her cheek.
"I'm here," he reassured her.
“Ashton… he…”
"He just got shot, but he's okay and in the hospital. Do you want me to take you to see him?"
Tristan offered with a slight smile.
But Tristan wasn't generous enough to let Layla visit her ex-boyfriend.
The best he could do was to let her have a fleeting glance from behind some thick glass.
As long as Ashton was alive, that was good enough for him.
