The morning air was crisp as Maya and I walked into the police station. I held her hand tightly, offering whatever comfort I could as we crossed the threshold into the sterile, fluorescent-lit lobby. The weight of the past few days hung heavily between us, the knowledge that someone had deliberately tried to harm her gnawing at my every thought.
Maya looked around nervously, her fingers trembling slightly in mine. I gave her hand a reassuring squeeze, trying to keep my own anxiety in check. "We’re doing the right thing, Maya," I said softly. "We need to tell them everything."
