Lianne was in the middle of her slumber when her personal phone on the bedside table vibrated. It was a video call from her grandmother.
She immediately accepted the video call request. “It’s late, Granny. Why are you still up?”
Marianne looked anxious on the video call. “You gave me a scare when I couldn’t get in touch with you.”
It was only then that Lianne noticed the several missed calls from her grandmother. “I was out getting some stuff, Granny. I forgot my phone.”
Marianne sighed in relief. “Have you had your dinner, Lianne? How are you managing work stress? You can change your job if it’s too much to handle. Don’t exhaust yourself.”
Feeling a lump in her throat, Lianne mewed, “I’m doing fine, Granny. Don’t worry. Enough about me. Have you been tutoring kids lately?”
Marianne was a retired teacher. Due to her favorable standing in the education community, the school rehired her for a few more years after her retirement. Marianne left the school system early this year,
