"You're right," she said, the words like shards of glass in her throat. "I can't change your mind, damn you. And I won't lower myself to begging any longer."
She opened the door to leave, but stopped, shooting him one last haunted glare over her shoulder.
"But know this - if your path leads you to hurting me or anyone I care for ever again...I'll make it my life's purpose to bury you under the misery you've devoutly embraced. That's a vow you can take to the karmic planes of your eternal soul-binding or whatever fresh hell you've surrendered your sanity to."
With that, she was gone, the door slamming behind her with an air of brutal finality.
Alexander was left alone, her cherished memories scattered across his desk like confetti from the shredded remnants of their once beautiful life together. He stared at the abandoned photos and mementos, running a tired hand over his face.
Part of him ached to go after Charlotte, to gather her in his arms and convince her that his love remain
