Near Death
I decided to visit Mia, but she came to me first.
I had no idea how she managed to find her way to the Shangri-La from her school.
When I saw her standing outside my hotel room, I almost had a heart attack.
She wore her pink school bag and grinned up at me. ‘Hi, Miss Finnegan.’
‘Mia!’ I looked up and down the carpeted hallway.
She was the only one there.
‘How did you get here?’
‘Class ended early. I asked Daddy’s driver to send me here.’
I breathed out. ‘Does Kieran—does your daddy know about this?’
‘Uh-huh.’ She nodded.
Still, I texted Kieran to let him know Mia was with me.
‘I’ve missed you. Did you miss me?’ The girl smiled.
‘Um, sure.’ I was a little unused to the change in attitude.
The last time we met, she was crying and hiding in Kieran’s arms because I almost killed her.
I checked the time.
It was just past noon.
‘Have you had lunch?’
She shook her head.
‘Okay. There’s a sushi restaurant on the sixth floor of the hotel, and a pizzeria on the seventh. Which one do you prefer?’
