I pulled the car to a stop in front of the hospital, my heart racing from the thoughts swirling in my head.
First, I was relieved that Taylor was on the mend and finally getting discharged. I was also anxious to take him back to Crystal's apartment so he could see Caleb, who had been excitedly telling all the other kids at the daycare that his Father was finally leaving the hospital.
But beneath these emotions was the most pressing one: worry.
I breathed in deeply and slowly blew out the air, then repeated the move a few more times until I felt some of the tension ease up a bit.
“I'll talk to him later; I can wait.”
I pulled down the rearview mirror and checked my reflection, then rubbed a gentle hand across my swollen belly before unlocking the door to step out.
“It wouldn't do to bother him with my assumptions just yet.”
