I leaned back into the office chair as I closely studied the picture of the infiltrator Ray had recommended. He hadn't told me it would be a woman—and one who looked so frail, too. Perhaps I was just judging the book by its cover... or, in this case, judging the infiltrator by the photo.
I’d been very vocal about my skepticism, but Ray had sworn up and down that she was the best in the game.
“A bit of an exaggeration, but we'll see,” I muttered as I placed the picture down and sighed.

Her face flickered into my mind, and my heart reacted to it. Ray had always seemed to move on from all his relationships pretty easily, but I guess healing is different for everyone because the pain of her absence still lingered. Thoughts of her invaded my mind at any opportunity.
It could be frustrating sometimes, but at that moment, I just felt... sad. My heart ached, and nothing else seemed to matter.
