Chapter 125: A Worthy Pain

Another scream escaped my lips despite how hard I tried not to scream too much. The spasms of childbirth were excruciating, and they spread through to my head so that I had a terrible headache. Whenever I cried out, my head would feel like it would explode.
The nurses in the room with me tried their best to relieve the pain. Some dabbed the sweat off my face. As she worked, she whispered, “Marie, please, you need to take this seriously. The pain is too intense, and at this rate, you may not give birth at all and may need a C-section.”
I shook my head. “No! I don’t want to!”
“Think about the baby!” the nurse said, a little frustrated. “We need to relieve the pain, and an epidural is a good way to go about it. Why are you afraid of it?”
I groaned and kept clenching and unclenching my fists. The more I tried to fight it, the more the contraction increased in frequency. “I don’t want an epidural…I don’t need an epidural!”
