I woke up cursing because I was still feeling the effect of the alcohol I’d taken. “Ugh…my head hurts like crazy!” I grunted to myself. Well, talking about the pain loudly seemed to work. I quickly washed my face and took time to observe myself in the bathroom mirror.
What was I turning myself into? I’d almost died the previous night because I’d drunk myself to a stupor, and all for what? Because Julie had been playing all along? Or did I feel like the biggest fool of all time?
I grunted and went away, disappointed in myself. That morning, I called up Selina when I realized that she’d called me several times at night, but I had been knocked out. When she answered, I tried my best not to sound grumpy. “Selina, I missed your calls.”
“Thankfully, it wasn’t an emergency, so you haven’t missed anything important,” she said casually.
“So, what was it? Did you find something?”
“I did, and I wanted to see you personally. It’s not something to discuss over the phone.”
