"She's probably not home yet," Lucas said, slowly removing his suit jacket.
The joyful expression on Gary's face visibly faded.
"Not home yet?" Gary murmured.

At 7:00 pm, Lucas served the dishes on the table.
Gary stared at the food in front of him, hesitated a bit, and then said carefully, "Daddy."
Lucas handed him a spoon and a fork.
"Aren't we going to wait for Ms. Whitman to come back before eating?"
"I don't know when she'll return," Lucas answered casually. "I've already saved her a portion."
Hearing this, Gary immediately brightened up. He nodded enthusiastically and started eating obediently.
Halfway through dinner, I came back carrying several bags. Gary immediately jumped from his chair, abandoning his food to help me carry things. "Let me help you," he offered sweetly.
This little guy always warmed my heart.
"It's okay. These are heavy. Go back and finish eating."
I took the bags to my room.
Gary exchanged a glance with Lucas and quickly followed me.
