"Hey, guys?" Lydia's voice cut through their dispute. "Is everything okay?"
Ella and Lucas turned, startled to find Lydia standing in the doorway, a concerned expression on her face.
"We're fine, Lydia," Ella said quickly, forcing a smile. "Just a little disagreement. Nothing to worry about."
Lydia stepped into the room, her eyes wide with apparent concern. "Oh, no! Is it because of me? I never meant to cause any trouble between you two."
Lucas opened his mouth, likely to confirm that yes, it was indeed because of her, but Ella shot him a warning look.
"It's not your fault, Lydia," Ella lied, her smile strained. "We're just... dealing with some stress from work."
Lydia's face lit up. "Oh, I know just the thing! Group hug!"
Before either Ella or Lucas could protest, Lydia had wrapped her arms around both of them, pulling them into an awkward embrace.
