CHAPTER 80 THROUGH THE TWILIGHT

I bolted upright from the bed, my skin slick with sweat as I gasped for relief. It had been a nightmare—a timeline where I watched helplessly as I lost everything and everyone who mattered to me. I would rather lose my life than fail, and that was a fact.
In a fluid motion, I swung my legs over the bed's side and stretched before walking to the window to throw it open. I took a deep breath as the night’s cold breeze caressed my skin, savouring the soothing scent of the trees and wet earth.
I didn’t know how long I stood there, but by the time I turned away from the window and walked to the bedside table to grab my laptop, my heart had stopped racing, and I felt much calmer.
A fleeting doubt crossed my mind as I opened the laptop and saw the time—there was no way she would still be awake.
I knew it was selfish to think she would be just because I was, but I needed her.
The call rang for what felt like the longest seconds of my life before eventually going unanswered.
