DOMINIC I bolted upright from the bed, my skin slick with sweat as I gasped for relief. I didn’t know how long I stood there, but by the time I turned away from the window and walked to the bedside table to grab my laptop, my heart had stopped racing, and I felt much calmer. A fleeting doubt crossed my mind as I opened the laptop and saw the time—there was no way she would still be awake. I knew it was selfish to think she would be just because I was, but I needed her. The call rang for what felt like the longest seconds of my life before eventually going unanswered. I
