The sudden movement of the squirrel and the false alarm it gave me scared me, but still, I was thankful it was just a squirrel.
If something else had happened, I might have died because I had no fighting strength left, unless Dominic decided to take pity on me and help me. As I stood, I could feel my legs buckling beneath me.
I was tired and drained, and I just wanted my bed this instant.
It wasn't that I didn't want to move away when he tried to convince me, even though he had his reasons; I disagreed because my legs were refusing to cooperate.
I heard him snicker behind me, but I paid him no mind. I would have done the same, too.
"Are you still prepared to leave, or do you prefer to remain here, vulnerable to any potential threats?" He asked, sounding smug.
I said, "Adrenaline is still pumping in my body now, so let's go before it wears off," and I walked ahead of him towards our parked car. He followed me until we were walking side by side.
