Chapter 1318
The rain poured down in torrents, so heavy that windshield wipers struggled to keep up. Sheets of water streamed down the glass, turning windshields into shimmering waterfalls.
Hazel had originally planned to drive Elizabeth to the hospital for a follow-up, but the downpour was so intense that Elizabeth didn't trust her daughter's driving skills. At the last minute, she took the wheel herself.
As they sat in traffic, Elizabeth frowned with concern.
"Hazel, call your father and check if he's home yet. The rain is so heavy, tell him to drive carefully."
"Hang on, Mom. Let me call Shawn first."
Shawn's phone rang, and Hazel's voice came through. "Hey, Shawn. Are you home yet?"
He had just passed a red light.
"I just picked up Dad from work," he replied. "We'll be home soon. What about you and Mom?"
"We're still on the road."
Just then, Charlie stepped into the car, his assistant holding an umbrella over him. Settling into his seat, he caught sight of Shawn on the phone.
