Irene'S POV
The moment I heard my mother’s voice, my heart sank. I should have known it was only a matter of time before she called to lecture me, but the sharpness in her tone still caught me off guard.
“Irene, what were you thinking getting so close to the Alpha of Golden Crest?”
Of course, she disapproved of my closeness to Matthew's rival pack.
“This is a mistake that should never have happened.” she added.
I could feel my throat tightening, the familiar suffocating pain returning. Every critical word she spoke sliced through me.
