Chapter 16 You Came to the Second Floor Last Night?
Madison had a headache when she woke up the next day.
She had stayed up late last night taking care of Allen and hadn't gotten enough rest. She checked the time and realized she was fifteen minutes later than usual, but luckily, Allen should still be doing his exercises and hadn't come down yet.
Madison quickly washed up and headed out of her room. However, to her surprise, Allen was already sitting at the dining table.
Madison was startled and hastily lowered her head, her drooping eyelashes covering the nervousness in her eyes.
‘Why did he come down so early today? Did he find out I went to the second floor last night?’
With an uneasy feeling, Madison walked into the dining room.
Allen was about 6.2 feet tall, and even sitting down, he seemed exceptionally tall and imposing.
He wore a meticulously tailored suit that accentuated his cold and stern demeanor. Meanwhile, he was clad in an air of aristocratic aloofness from head to toe.
Allen raised his head and saw Madison when he heard her footsteps. His eyebrows furrowed, and his face fell.
“Good morning, Mr. Whitlock,” Madison greeted him before escaping into the kitchen swiftly. “I didn’t expect you to come down so early today. I’ll go prepare breakfast right away.”
However, when she saw the cup of black coffee beside the man’s arm, she frowned slightly.
‘How can he still drink black coffee when he has an upset stomach?’
As a caretaker in the past, Madison used to remind her patients about their health. As she was about to say something, Allen glanced at her menacingly and said emotionlessly, “I make the rules here. If you want to stay here, then you need to follow them.
“Madison, you’re the first one who makes me wait at the dining table. I don’t want to see the same thing that happened this morning happen again in the future.”
Madison was stumped.
She wouldn’t have overslept if she had not taken care of him last night.
“Alright, Mr. Whitlock,” she replied softly. She was not going to explain anything to him.
After that, Madison quickly prepared breakfast and served it on the table. She then lowered her head and started eating her portion.
However, except for taking a few bites of the fancy salad and toast the maid had bought from the fridge, Allen didn't even touch the rest of the food that Madison had made.
He kept his head down, looking at the financial report he had just received on his phone with a cup of black coffee by his side. Finally, after finishing the report, Allen stood up.
Madison quickly put down her utensils and followed him out.
In fact, she didn't understand why Allen insisted on having her eat with him and even demanded that she should prepare breakfast and dinner while he refused to eat the food she made.
They had nothing to talk about and weren’t a real couple. Wouldn’t it be better to avoid sitting together like this?
As Allen stood in front of the door changing his shoes, he suddenly turned around and gazed at her deeply. “Oh yeah, don't go to my grandfather's place when I'm not there.”
Madison was taken aback. “But Mr. Richardson asked me to visit him whenever I have time. I promised I would go this weekend—”
Before she could finish her sentence, Allen’s gaze turned sharp. He leaned closer to her and grabbed her chin, causing her cheeks to deform, and it hurt her a lot. “Madison, I’m not asking you for your opinion.”
His eyes were filled with disdain.
“Don't think you can get any benefits from my grandfather. Don't think that you can manipulate him as you please just because he's old.”
Hendrick used to be a stern and serious man. Yesterday at the nursing home was the first time Allen had ever seen his grandfather smile at someone like that.
Initially, he had been under the impression his grandfather did not want him to marry the woman the Whitlocks had picked. However, after seeing his grandfather's attitude toward Madison, he realized that his grandfather really liked her.
“I… I didn’t…” Madison tried to speak, but the pain made her speech difficult as tears were welling up in her eyes.
Even though her pitiful appearance with her teary eyes would melt every man’s heart in this world, it had no effect on Allen.
‘What a pretentious woman! She’s really good at playing the victim!’
Allen scoffed coldly and said, “It’s best if you didn’t.”
After that, he released Madison. He then wiped his right hand with a tissue as if touching her had made him dirty.
Madison was so terrified by his menacing aura that her legs went weak. When he let go of her, she fell to the floor.
There were a few obvious finger marks on her cheeks, but Allen paid her no mind.
After throwing away the tissue, he picked up his suitcase. He stopped in his tracks when he was about to open the door.
“Oh yeah…” His voice was deep. “Did you go to the second floor last night?”
