“A mental asylum?” Mirabel asked, “Why?”
Before her question could be answered, Jenny approached, her wild red hair flying in the wind behind her.
“Mirabel!” She waved, quickening her steps.
“Looks like you've got company.” Chase's mother got up from the chair, “I'll tell you more about it another time, dear. I'll head to my room now, I need to catch up on my naps.”
“Okay.” Mirabel said softly, watching the woman leave, knowing there probably won't be another time.
When Jenny reached her, she slid into the recently vacated seat. “I saw you leave the family table. Are you okay?”
Mirabel shrugged absently.
“It's been really hectic these past couple of days. This must be so hard for you, right? I've seen the way they look at you, Mirabel. I'm afraid your husband wouldn't be able to protect you. The fact that he was almost positioned says a lot.”
