Before Janice could get up, Edward had paid the bill.
She was briefly stunned. After returning to her senses, she greeted the owner's wife, "Thank you. I'll get going."
"Come by anytime, Janice!"
"Alright!"
As they walked out of the stall, Edward exhaled softly. "Feeling the effects of alcohol?"
Janice nodded. "Stronger than wine." Though she felt dizzy, her head didn't ache, and she felt fine. She wasn't drunk.
She wasn't a heavy drinker, but years of intense work pressure had made her accustomed to easing her fatigue with alcohol. That was the only way she could face the next day with enough energy for work.
The driver had arrived at some point and was waiting by the car. Janice couldn't drive after having alcohol, so she tossed the car keys to the driver and smiled. "Thank you for coming so late."
Flattered, the driver quickly opened the car door. "This is my duty, Ms. Smith. Please get in."
