Darius did not return until late in the evening. I knew because I kept glancing at the window and even when the nurse came in to close it because of the chill, I asked her not to. Ian came back to sit with me and Serena did as well at the end of her shift. I could tell that they knew about what I told Darius but neither of them spoke about it. It took five minutes of awkward silence before I decided to speak.
“Do you think I did something unforgivable?” I asked and they were both shocked by my question. “He hasn’t come back yet and it has been over two hours.”
“It’s not unforgivable, no, but, come on, Leindra,” it was Ian who responded. “I have always been on your side but this is absurd. What were you thinking? If you had told me or someone, we would have known what to do.”
“You would have told him. You would have stopped me. He told me that he had answers about my parents and I needed them.”
