My father laughed. "Come on, don't you know what your mother is like? She acts like a strict mother when there are outsiders, but it's her way of protecting you."
I sighed in relief. "That's good. I was worried she was determined to have Stayc as her daughter-in-law. That would make things hard for me."
"Ha." My father sneered. "Honestly, I don't even know how the Greene family raised their daughter. Look at her, getting pregnant when she's barely an adult. She was stupid enough to come and offend us, too.
"Your mother's made it clear that we're going to act like the promise to marry never happened. Anyway, I won't allow you to marry someone who's pregnant with another man's child."
