Chapter 10 Curtis Turned A Blind Eye

Curtis, who watched the scene from the side, walked in with dull eyes. He then looked at Anna and asked with a clear voice, “Why aren’t you sleeping yet?” Anna looked as if Curtis’ appearance was a surprise. Seeing that he was here, she acted cute as she pulled on the corner of his shirt to get him to sit by the bed. She then hugged him and said, “I’ve slept too much during the day, so I can’t fall asleep now. Why are you here?” “I’m here to see you!” Curtis said as his dark eyes looked towards me. His eyes fell onto the back of my hand, and he furrowed his brows. “Go get it treated!” His voice was cold and indifferent, without any pity or concern. Anna hugged Curtis and said with a guilty, apologetic expression, “It’s my fault for being careless and causing Sis Julia to get burned.” Curtis stroked her long hair with an indifferent expression. It seemed like he was not going to blame her. I felt like I was being pushed to the edge of a cliff. My heart ached so much that I was feeling out of breath as I walked out of the ward step by step. From the start, I knew that I would lose Anna’s bet. Nonetheless, I still had a trace of hope. Even if Curtis just asked if it hurt, it would be enough to continue supporting me. However, I could not even get a pity expression from him in the end, nor did I get any sympathy. In the corridor, a broad chest blocked my way. I looked up and saw Edward, who furrowed his brows and narrowed his eyes at me. I did not know why he was there, so I just looked at him and greeted him, “Doctor Finn!” He looked at me, and after some time, he asked suddenly, “Does it hurt?” I got taken aback as a wave of sadness rushed into my heart. Drip! A drop of tear the size of a bead fell onto the floor. Some wind whizzed by the corridor, making the already cold, lonely corridor feel even emptier. Even a person that barely knew me would ask if it hurt. Why would a person I had been with for two years turn a blind eye?! Instinctively, I wanted to withdraw my hand as Edward held it up. However, he grabbed it even tighter. “I’m a doctor!” Edward said, implying that I should not reject him. He was a doctor, so he could never ignore a patient. Nonetheless, I also knew that Edward was not a nosy person. It was just because I am Curtis’ wife. I followed Edward into the examination room. After giving some instructions to the nurse, he looked at me and said, “Please give us your cooperation so your hand can be bandaged properly!” I nodded. “Thank you!” Edward then left. The nurse helped me clean the wound on the back of my hand. The nurse furrowed her brows slightly when she saw some white blisters on it. “The burn is quite serious. So, it might leave a scar later!” “It’s fine!” I would take this as a lesson. Due to the blisters, the nurse had to pop them and clean up the abscesses when treating the wound. The nurse was afraid that I could not endure it, so she said, “It’ll be painful, but you’ll have to endure it.” “Mmhm!” It hurt a little, but it was not very painful. Only the emotional pain in the heart could be considered painful. After treating the wound, the nurse gave me some instructions to care for it. Just as I was about to go back to Anna’s ward, I heard some noise coming from the stairs when I passed by it, so I could not help but pause my footsteps. “Master Blake has passed away, so when are you planning to divorce her?” Was this Edward’s voice? “Her? Julia?” The man said with a deep, cold voice. It was a familiar voice that belonged to Curtis. I stood nearby the stairs and vaguely saw Curtis putting his hands into his pockets as he leaned against the railing with a cold expression. On the other hand, Edward leaned against the wall as he held a half-smoked cigarette between his slender fingers. Edward flicked off the ashes on the cigarette butt. He then looked at Curtis and said indifferently, “You knew that she did not do anything. It’s just because she loves you.” Curtis looked up, glanced at Edward, and said coldly, “Since when did you start being concerned for her?” Upon hearing this, Edward furrowed his brows and said, “You’re overthinking it. I’m just reminding you so you won’t regret it later. No matter how deep her love is, there might still be a day where she’ll take it all back.” “Hah!” Curtis sneered. “I’ve never cared about her love…” I did not continue listening to their following conversation. Some things were better left acknowledged in one’s heart. If one had to hear it from others so obviously, then it was their fault for not knowing what was good and bad.
