Chapter 13

Since the Lopez family fell into trouble, Natalie transformed from the beloved lady of a wealthy family into the head of the household. After marriage, she had to deal with her husband's constant scandals and the mockery he directed at her at home. Amidst such chaos, one would inevitably mature. Natalie didn't care if Bethany had a hidden agenda. She displayed her professionalism and smiled. "Yeah, I'm a lawyer now." "Do you guys know each other?" Matthew asked in surprise. "We met once," Bethany replied. Matthew glanced at Natalie. Seeing that she didn't intend to speak, he turned to Bethany and said, "Let me formally introduce you to Natalie Lopez. She has a success rate of over 80 percent. I plan to entrust your case to her. Of course, I'll still assist her on the case. What do you think, Ms. Powel?" "I trust whoever you think highly of. Let's sign the contract now." "Okay." After sealing the deal, Bethany mentioned she had other matters to attend to, and Matthew offered to see her off. Bethany smiled and said, "If you don't mind, I'd like Ms. Lopez to send me off. I've something to say to her in private." Matthew didn't agree right away and instead glanced at Natalie. She nodded and said, "I'll walk you out, Ms. Powel." "Let's go." In the elevator, Natalie stood quietly. Bethany glanced at her and asked, "Has Taylor been doing well these past two years?" "You should ask him yourself." "I thought you'd be aware since you're husband and wife." Natalie had thought Bethany's earlier comment about her maturity was a passing remark. However, upon hearing her question, Natalie felt a twinge of discomfort. She turned to meet Bethany and asked, "May I know why you're asking me this?" "It's just a casual conversation," Bethany said merrily. Soon after, she added, "Ms. Lopez, don't be too suspicious of everything." Natalie smiled slightly and said, "As a lawyer, I'll defend your rights and am happy to assist you with any legal issues. However, I'm not obligated to address matters beyond work." "You're right, but there's still one thing I need your help with." "What is it?" Bethany whispered, "Please don't tell Taylor that I've returned. I don't want to see him in my current state." Natalie didn't bother to speculate on Bethany's intentions, nor did she care. She simply nodded and said, "You can trust me. I won't speak ill of you behind your back. I'm a professional lawyer." After seeing Bethany off, Natalie returned to the law firm. Matthew briefly updated her about Bethany's case and handed her similar cases to review. Natalie took the files and got to work. Bethany had hired Natalie as her lawyer without her husband's knowledge. She was in the stage of gathering evidence of her husband's infidelity and was contemplating her legal strategy. At five in the evening, Natalie received a call from Bethany when she was preparing to leave the office. "Ms. Lopez, he's planning to take another woman to Nine Bar tonight. Should I follow them and try to capture some incriminating video evidence?" "Yes, you can do that, but please be careful," Natalie advised. "I'm a little scared. Could you accompany me?" Bethany asked. Natalie's expression faltered. While it was acceptable for a lawyer to assist their client in gathering evidence, the situation was complicated due to her personal ties to Bethany. It was odd for Taylor's wife to accompany his ex-girlfriend to catch her cheating husband. Ultimately, professionalism prevailed over emotions. To be a competent lawyer, Natalie had to remain impartial. At 6:30 pm, Bethany and Natalie met outside Nine Bar. Bethany greeted her with a faint smile, "Ms. Lopez, thank you for coming." Natalie responded, "You're welcome." As she followed Bethany into the bar, she asked, "By the way, I need documentation of your husband's assets abroad. Can you obtain it?" "I'll try," Bethany replied. Sensing Natalie's reticence, Bethany continued, "I really regret leaving Jadebourgh two years ago without giving Taylor a chance to explain. If I could turn back time, I'd forgive him. After all, he was manipulated. He didn't intend to betray me. Don't you think so, Ms. Lopez?"
