Chapter 4 Let's Go For Divorce
Allison stood frozen, her heart sinking. She wondered in dismay why her father, who had always shown her love, now doubted her.
Clenching her fists, she said with conviction, "They're Frank's children."
Before James could respond, Mitchel cut in, "You still won't admit the truth?"
James noticed the innocence on her daughter’s face, he moved to her and asked, “Tell me the truth about this, who is the owner of the child? Are you sure it’s Billy?”
“The babies are for Billy,” she said with tears fixated in her eyes.
“You’re so good at acting, you want to cry again right?” Billy inquired.
James shrugged off Billy’s words and continued talking to her daughter, “then why did you refuse to do a DNA test, I was told you refused.”
“I refused because the result is going to be negative,” she said and held her father’s hand, “believe me the babies belong to him.”
“I don’t understand what you saying Allison, are you saying the DNA test is not legit?” James queried, he didn’t seem to decode the words her daughter just uttered.
“The reason why I said that, is because the pregnancy was through IVF,” she explained.
“IVF? What’s that?” James inquired, her father who seemed to be illiterate didn’t understand the meaning of IVF.
“Invitro fertilization,” Mitchel said. “Even if it was through IVF how does that affect the DNA?”
“Exa.a..aactly mum how does it affect it,” Billy stammered.
“The IVF was it another man’s sperm,” Allison said.
“Another man's sperm?” James and Mitchel echoed.
“Why will you do something like that without your husband knowing?” her father inquired curiously in a vexed tone.
They all walked to the living and settled down on the couch.
“He knew about it, he was the one that brought the idea, I was even against it but he forced me into it,” Allison explained, proving her innocence.
“Liar, liar, why will I ask you to be pregnant with someone else baby when I’m your husband, why are you telling all this lie? The truth is,” Billy said and moved close to her and continued, “ I don’t care about you cheating on me, I love you just give up the babies, and we will have our children.”
James, caught in a whirlwind of emotions, said, "Billy may be right. Perhaps it's best to give up the children after birth.
"You're young; you'll have your own children someday. Just apologize, and we can put this behind us."
"Dad, I haven't cheated," she insisted, her voice firm.
She didn't know how else to convince them. It was baffling to her why they refused to believe the truth, they all tend to believe Billy so easily.
James, looking disappointed, said, "The evidence is clear. Why can't you admit your mistake? I thought I raised you better than this."
James turned to Mitchel with a decisive tone, "I'll convince Allison to give up the children. She and Billy have always had a good relationship. If the children are given up, they won't have to divorce, right?"
Mitchel agreed, seeing this as an opportunity to maintain control over Allison in the future.
James took Allison to one of the empty rooms and tried several times to persuade Allison, but she steadfastly refused, determined to keep her children. James begged her and reminded her that people respected him because her daughter was married to a billionaire, he reminded her about the bills that Billy paid for his surgery in the hospital but after all her father told her, she refused to give up the babies. James was frustrated and angry, he walked out of the room angrily.
James told Mitchel that he had tried his best to persuade her but she refused, “let Billy decide what to do, I’m leaving.” He left the mansion and never looked back, he just hoped that she made the right decision.
Mitchel shook her head, she had never seen anyone so obstinate like her. She took her bag and left the mansion angrily.
“Mum, you’re leaving?” Billy inquired.
“Yes I am, you know what to do. If she stands on her decision to offer her a divorce, I need to attend one of my friend’s parties.” Mitchel said.
“Party at this time of the day?” Billy inquired.
“Why is there a problem about that?” she inquired in an annoyed tone.
“No ma,” Billy said and watched as her mother drove out of the compound.
Billy walked back in with anger and walked to meet Allison in the room where she was sitting, echoing his earlier stance, "You’re sending the children away after birth."
Allison, realizing the situation was unchangeable, wiped her tears and faced Frank with a resolution. "Let's get a divorce," she said firmly.
Billy's expression hardened as he grappled with his emotions. "Would you choose divorce over giving up the children? Believe me, you are going to reject this decision."
Allison, looking at him with a mix of disbelief and scorn, couldn't suppress a bitter laugh.
“Do you know I can ask you the same question, would you choose divorce over accepting the children?” Allison inquired looking at Billy curious to know what his answer would be.
“Answer my question first, I was the one who asked first,” Billy said.
“I knew you didn’t have the guts to answer the question, but I never knew you were this callous, I didn't see your true colors until now. I'll do whatever it takes to protect my children, if you can’t accept the child and raise it as your own then let’s divorce."
Her friends had always admired her for marrying what seemed like a perfect man, but she could never have guessed his true, deceitful nature. He had always been a good man until yesterday but Allison couldn’t believe that was his real identity. She felt deeply betrayed.
"Fine," Billy sneered, "We'll divorce, but you're leaving with nothing."
"Why? Half of this house is mine by right! In a divorce, we should divide our assets equally."
"I'm not accusing you of cheating. Letting you leave without anything is already generous. Don't push your luck," he snapped back.
Allison felt really let down. "Now I see who you really are after all this time," she sighed. "Let's just finish the divorce quickly."
"Sure, go ahead. Find your lover," Billy said with biting sarcasm.
Billy issued a divorce letter, she accepted the divorce and they both went different ways, Allison wasn’t given any share of Billy’s properties, and even the jewelry store was collected from her, Billy was the one open the store for her when he saw how talented she was in Jewelry making and took it back from her after they divorced rendering her jobless.
Allison left the country due to the news and how the media have painted her as the villain. Some said she was a gold digger that was there to devour Billy’s wealth. Her father disowned her after he discovered that the matter led her to divorce and hate the twins so badly.
Billy moved on with his life and got married to another person.
