Chapter 44 Walking In London
It started with a weak blink, a quick surge of light into his eyes, a long breath, and the sound of English music coming from the gramophone in the room.
He opened his eyes and realized he was lying on a soft, king-sized bed. He looked right and saw the gramophone, from which the song saturated the room. It was well polished but old, and it had the sound of the past. The song itself was an old English song. He turned right and saw his mother sitting with legs crossed like British models in a magazine.
“It’s such a good sight to watch my son sleep comfortably under my care while his enemies perish in the misfortune life served them.” She was donning a wooly turtleneck shirt and a black pair of trousers. Her hands were masked with gloves, and her hair was covered with a country hat.
He had the smile of a mother watching her infant baby sleep in peace, and her words were like the whispers of a young mother speaking hope in the ears of her baby while he sleeps. It was such a lovely sigh
