Chapter 17

No one knew what Logan and Jacob had talked about while the women were gone. Lorraine put the basket of freshly picked cherries on the coffee table and said to Jacob, "These are the cherries that are ready to be eaten, Mr. Jacob. The purplish-red ones are Bing cherries, and these bright-red ones are Meteor cherries. Try them out." Since Jacob wanted to purchase fruits from her for his employees' Easter fruit baskets, he would have to try them out. The business deal could only go through if he was satisfied with the fruits. Ernest Incorporated had so many employees. If they were to get one fruit basket each, the number of fruits required would be huge. Lorraine had already calculated the number she had in the orchards. It looked like this deal alone would be enough to clear out all the Bing and Meteor cherries she had. The rest had yet to ripen. It wasn't time to sell them yet. Jacob surreptitiously glanced at Logan, who smiled brightly and said, "Try them, Mr. Jacob." Jacob silently tried each of the cherries. Both varieties tasted good. In truth, he only came to the orchards because he had heard from Sonia that her best friend's newlywed husband was called Logan Moore. He came to see whether it was the Logan Moore he knew. Lo and behold, it was indeed his cousin. He couldn't believe Logan had gotten married without letting anyone know. The Moore family's elders were all worried about Logan's marriage. With Logan's status and the Moore family's influence, he shouldn't have to worry about finding a wife. But the fact that he adopted twins four years ago changed that. Adding to that, Logan was acquainted with the twins' birth mother and had grown up with her. Everyone thought he was in love with her, which led to his adoption of the twins. Even if the daughters of affluent families were madly in love with him, they refused to marry him because they didn't want to be stepmothers. They were also worried the twins' birth mother would return one day to ruin the marriage. That was why it had been hard for Logan to find a wife. Of course, with Logan remaining unmarried, the rest of the Moore sons could continue enjoying their freedom. The minute their elders urged them to marry, they would use Logan as an excuse and say there was no rush, seeing as he was still single. But now, Logan had secretly married, and his wife was a woman from the countryside. It wasn't that Jacob looked down on people from the countryside. He just thought Logan deserved better. After all, he was the outstanding head of the Moore family and Moore Corporation. He had a net worth of billions of dollars. He was worthy of marrying a princess, let alone a woman from the countryside. Still, Jacob understood that it was good enough that Lorraine was willing to marry Logan despite him having the twins. He ate the cherries and said, "They taste good and are fresh. They're not bad." Logan chuckled. "Have more, then. We don't just have cherries here; we also have other fruits. I heard you're buying these cherries for a fruit basket for your employees, Mr. Jacob. "How about you diversify the fruits and include some mangoes, apples, and grapes? Your employees will have more variety, and the fruit baskets will look nicer." Easter was about having Easter eggs, but Logan wouldn't say no to Jacob wanting to give his employees more stuff. "We have all those fruits in the orchards here, Mr. Jacob. Would you like to try them too?" Lorraine asked. "Give me a second. I'll go get some ripe mangoes and apples for you to try." She didn't expect Logan to help promote the other fruits in her orchards. It looked like he would be a good entrepreneur. Being a construction worker was a waste of his talents. Jacob's lips twitched. He sneaked a glance at Logan before nodding, indicating for Lorraine to do what she needed to do.
