Chapter 16

Lorraine plucked both Bing and Meteor cherries and put them in a basket. Then, she headed back to the cottage with the basket. Sonia followed her while munching on the cherries. She said, "Your new husband isn't half bad, Lorraine. He's so handsome. I won't lie, I didn't expect there to be handsome construction workers. If you ask me, he's handsome enough to be a celebrity." "He's a nice guy too. He's caring and considerate," Lorraine said. She still felt like she had lucked out with the accidental blind date and marriage. Logan was genuinely a great guy. It was almost as if she had hit the jackpot. "Did you two do the deed?" Sonia asked. Lorraine pushed her glasses up and said, "No. We barely know each other. I couldn't bring myself to do anything." "Are you serious? You couldn't bring yourself to do anything to such a hot guy? If I were you, I would've had my wicked way with him ages ago." "Your boss is handsome too. Why haven't you had your wicked way with him?" Sonia almost choked on a cherry seed. She coughed and spat it out before coughing again. "Are you trying to make me die of fright? It's good enough that I've been able to work with him for so long. What makes you think I'm capable of sleeping with him? "I like cherries, not ice statues. Besides, he's not my husband. Even if I did want to sleep with him, I wouldn't be able to actually do it." "That's why I can't just sleep with any handsome guy," Lorraine said. Sonia didn't have a comeback for that. Ultimately, she said, "You've always been good at worming your way out of these things. Oh, right. Where are the kids? I haven't seen them around." "They're already in kindergarten and will only be back in the evening. Can you stick around that long? If you can't, I'll bring them to visit you when I have the time. You're their godmother, so you have to prepare gifts for them," Lorraine said. "Ha. Look at you, making me their godmother just like that." Sonia started on another cherry and chuckled. "Well, I'll do it if I like them. Otherwise, I'll assume the role when your own kids are born." "Just trust me." Sonia laughed and changed the topic. "Raine, I genuinely think Logan has the potential to be a celebrity with his looks. Would you be okay with that? My company's parent company has an entertainment arm. Mr. Moore's cousin, Sean Moore, manages it. "If you're willing to have him give it a shot, I can help pull some strings and introduce him to people at Mr. Sean's entertainment company. Who knows? Maybe he'll shoot to stardom upon his debut." Lorraine considered it and said, "I'm not familiar with him, so I can't decide for him. I'll let him know about your suggestion and leave it up to him. It doesn't matter to me either way." She heard celebrities were busy and rarely at home. That was precisely what she wanted. That way, she could relax and be at ease without Logan around. "Sure. Ask him whether he's interested in becoming a celebrity, but don't forget to sign an agreement with him if he is. You don't want him to kick you to the curb after he becomes rich and famous," Sonia said. Lorraine wanted to say she was fine with that. It wasn't like she was in love with Logan. Then, she remembered she would be single again if he divorced her, and her parents would start nagging her about it again. That would be detrimental to her career. And so, she grunted in acknowledgment. She and Sonia continued chatting until they returned to the cottage, but they stopped when they were outside. They entered the cottage to see the two men, Logan and Jocab, still in the same positions they'd been when she and Sonia had left—sitting silently across from each other.
