Chapter 11

Shortly after Irene left the room, Logan brought the children in. He immediately understood what had happened when he saw Lorraine glaring at him, but he pretended not to notice anything. He said, "The kids need to go to kindergarten tomorrow, so I'll draw up their baths." Seeing that her glare hadn't achieved anything, Lorraine dropped it. She and Logan were already married, so it was perfectly normal for the four of them to sleep in the same room. She could only suppress her displeasure toward Irene and ask, "Do they have anything to change into?" "I usually put extra clothes in their bags. Looks like they're coming in handy now. I'll wash their uniforms after they bathe. They should be dry by tomorrow, judging from the current weather. I don't have any clothes, though. Could you get me something, Raine?" Logan said. Lorraine appraised him and said, "I'll ask my brother for a set of clothes." "Thanks." She showed him where the things were so that he could bathe the children. Before she left the room, she said, "You can leave Lulu to me. I'll bathe her later." Luna was a girl, so it wasn't appropriate to have Logan bathe her, especially now that she had Lorraine as a mother. "I can bathe myself, Mom," Luna said. Finnegan chimed in, "Me too. Dad usually only fills the tub for us." Logan was always busy with work, so the children generally drew their own baths. He was only taking extra care of them because they weren't familiar with the things in Lorraine's house. Logan focused on raising the kids to be independent. Lorraine smiled and praised the children. Then, she glanced at Logan, thinking he was good at raising and educating the twins. They weren't his flesh and blood, yet he was serious about raising them. She knew she hadn't misread him. When she returned to the room after getting a set of clothes from her brother, Matthew Somner, the kids were already done with their baths and had changed. They were jumping around on the bed and laughing away. "Mom!" Luna jumped off the bed when she saw Lorraine. She ran to Lorraine, lifting her into her arms. "Your bed is huge, Mom! Am I sleeping with you tonight? I've never slept with a mother before. I wonder what it's like!" The twins had never met their mother. Logan always told them she had gone somewhere far away for work, but they had heard the adults talking about her in secret before. It seemed their mother had abandoned them and even had something to do with Terence's death. That was why their grandparents didn't want them. They would've been sent to an orphanage if Logan hadn't adopted them. And so, the twins craved a mother's love. Lorraine pecked her on the cheek and said affectionately, "That's right, sweetheart. You're sleeping with me tonight." Luna was overjoyed by that. She grabbed Lorraine's face and planted a sloppy kiss on her cheek, making Lorraine's heart melt. Lorraine handed the clothes to Logan. Then, she played with the children. They were very excited to have a mother, and Lorraine was more than willing to have fun with them. The three rolled around on the bed, their laughter filling the room. When Logan came out of the bathroom and saw how happy the children were, he couldn't help looking at Lorraine fondly. After a while, he approached them and said, "Finn, Lulu, you two need to sleep. You have to get up early for kindergarten tomorrow." They obediently lay down at his command. Luna wanted to spend more time in Lorraine's arms, so she asked, "Mom, can you hold me?" "I stink from working all day and haven't bathed, sweetheart. Don't you think I stink?" Despite Lorraine's words, she still lay beside Luna and wrapped her arms around her. Lorraine did stink a bit from the sweat, but Luna didn't mind. She felt like that was what a mother was supposed to smell like. Finnegan, as the older child, was more level-headed. He didn't ask Lorraine to hold him while he slept. He and Luna were tired from all the fun they had, so they quickly fell asleep. Lorraine got out of bed and told Logan, "They fell asleep so easily." Logan adjusted the A/C temperature, so it was just right. "They've always been like that. When they were babies, they didn't do anything other than sleep and eat. They only cried or fussed when they soiled their diapers. "When they became a little bigger, they would play with each other. They didn't really pester anyone to spend time with them." "They're so adorable and intelligent. It's such a pity." She knew Terence had passed away, but what about the twins' mother? Logan hadn't mentioned anything about her, and she didn't think it was appropriate to press for details. They didn't know each other that well, after all. She didn't have any ulterior motives in marrying Logan. She genuinely just wanted to stop her parents from nagging her and to keep them from distracting her from her career. Lorraine noticed Logan's expression darken at her words. She knew this meant he was extremely against talking about the twins' mother. Well, since their birth mother didn't care about them, she would give them twice the love and care now that she was their mother. She could leave Logan to his own devices but would ensure the children got all the motherly love they needed. Logan walked to the wardrobe and opened it to grab some pajamas for Lorraine. He faltered when he saw the plain outfits inside but ultimately remained silent. "I'll get it myself." Lorraine walked over and grabbed some pajamas. Then, she asked, "Do you mind sleeping on the couch, Logan? The one in my room is big enough to be a bed." He looked at her, his gaze deep and meaningful. Her heart shot to her throat when she met his eyes. Suddenly, she thought about what her family had told her. Logan's mannerisms and demeanor didn't seem like a construction worker's. Now, she understood what they meant. The look he was giving her now made her think her family was right. He said, "We can talk about sleeping when you're done showering." They were going to talk about sleeping… For some reason, this made Lorraine blush. She soon regained her composure and said, "Okay, I'll go shower now." She turned to leave, then turned back again to grab another set of pajamas. This time, they were long-sleeved. She said, "It'll get cold with the A/C on. It's better to wear something long-sleeved." Logan didn't say anything. She was obviously changing her pajamas as a defense measure—she was defending herself against him. Did she think her pajamas would do anything to keep him away if he really wanted to do anything? It was just wishful thinking.
