Chapter 4

"No." The coldness on Peter's face disappeared, and he lowered his head to look at her, he had a faint smile and he reassured her. "It's very obvious if you look at it. She is pregnant, but the father is nowhere to be seen. Her mother was angry so she beat her own daughter senseless. It's none of our business, so don't get involved." Cassandra was taken aback, she put Peter's hand on her cheek, and said emotionally, "Thank you for being responsible to me. I would've ended up like her if you hadn't." "No." Peter withdrew his hand, and wrapped his arms around her waist and said passionately, "As long as you're with me, I won't let anyone hurt you, not even your parents." This man was so powerful and domineering. Cassandra was ecstatic to have such an opportunity at the expense of her sister's anguish. "My daughter is blessed!" Looking at her daughter's back with Peter's arm around it, Fiona was smiling ear to ear. She then remembered Samantha and the smile on her face quickly ran away. She knew what happened to her and she was more than willing to protect her own daughter's newfound happiness. She was prepared to kill Samantha and her child outright, ensure that she will never speak out against them. She already had a plan in mind. She turned around like a hungry tiger ready to strike at her prey. It was already too late, Samantha had escaped. Four years later... A private jet soared through the blue sky and it was about to arrive in Zhongzhou City. "Sheriff Xu!" In the cabin, a young and sweet boy could be heard, he was especially cute and cuddly. "Do you like me more or my mommy more?" "That is a difficult question," he said as he smiled gently. "Just say the truth." The three-year-old uttered while sitting on the man's lap. He was holding onto his collar, and he looked at him innocently. "Daniel, you should call him uncle Xu. He is ten years older than Mommy and you should respect him." Samantha glanced at her son helplessly, reminding him so many times. Daniel spit out his tongue at his mother, and a sweet smile appeared on his soft little cheeks. "Sheriff Xu sounds cooler and he wants to be my father. I won't be calling him uncle anymore." "Indeed." He nodded approvingly, he then turned around and raised his eyebrow at Samantha. He asked in a low voice, "Girl, do you think I'm old?" Looking into his firm eyes, Samantha's snow-white face blushed red, she shook her head in embarrassment. "No, you're not old yet." Jonathan Xu, 31 years old, he was the youngest deputy of the Zhongzhou police department and he was a first-level police inspector. Four years ago, he came across a woman covered in blood, he saved her, and gave her money to study abroad. "That's no good." Jonathan rubbed the top of her hair fondly, and looked down at the beautiful little boy. "I like the both you, but your mother loves me just as much as she loves you, so you better listen to her, okay?" "Hmm… Oh, well…" Daniel scratched his head, but he glanced in favor of his mother. "My mommy is beautiful, I always listen to her." "Thank you for being so kind to me and Daniel." Samantha looked at Jonathan sincerely, her eyes were full of gratitude. "You're a public figure after all. I'm worried that our marriage will hurt your reputation." "That doesn't matter, I will meet your parents in a few days. Once we get their blessing we will get married straight after." Samantha smiled bitterly. Jonathan's mother didn't approve their relationship. "I have asked my classmate Pearl Wu to pick me up and stay at her house temporarily." Jonathan nodded and agreed. "I promise I will make you happy. Samantha, I—" He wanted to say I love you, but a tough guy like him, who inhales the pistol smoke of his gun, would feel embarrassed if he ever said those three words. Samantha knew what he wanted to say and she smiled calmly. He never needed to say it. If Jonathan's mother didn't object, they would've been married much earlier and they wouldn't have had to meet her parents. The plane arrived at the airport safely. Her friend Pearl was waiting for a long time at the airport. When a family of three came out, there was a glimmer of joy in her eyes, and she waved her hands excitedly, "Samantha, hey, over here!" "Pearl!" "A strapping young man, a beautiful woman, and a cute little boy. Are you sure you're not married yet?" "Don't be an idiot, Pearl." Samantha glanced at her friend and handed her the gift box in her hand, "Limited edition cosmetics, just for you." "Thank you very much." Pearl took it with a grin on her face. She picked up Daniel and push Samantha towards Jonathan and said playfully, "There I'll take care of Danny boy here and I'll give you two some alone time." Jonathan slowly held onto her and he smiled as he agreed, "I think I'd like that." "Stop making trouble in public, besides, I still have to go with you." Samantha came out of Jonathan's arms like an electric shock, she was worried she might bring him bad luck. Jonathan was a bit reluctant, but he still sent them to Pearl’s car, looking at her with brilliant eyes, "Samantha, I'll drop by the company tomorrow morning. Say hello for your first day." "Are you sure?" "Of course I am. We can have normal relationships." "I'll see you tomorrow then. Daniel say goodbye to your uncle." Samantha shook his son's delicate little hand. "Goodbye, almost-daddy!" Daniel showed a gentle and charming smile, his split mouth resembling Samantha. "Goodbye." Jonathan felt soft and he went down to kiss Daniel's face. When he looked up, he took the opportunity to kiss Samantha on the forehead. Samantha's heart jumped wildly, and she hurriedly pushed Pearl, "Hurry up and drive." The car drove away. Jonathan suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. There was an illusion that she was getting farther and farther away from him and she was never coming back.
