Chapter 10
After holding the woman for few seconds, Lian suddenly noticed something off about her and he asked, "Ms. Yan, are you awake?"
Cassandra shuddered with fright, she hurriedly closed her eyes and continued to pretend.
For the first time, he began to doubt the kindness he saw within Cassandra. Was she just faking it?
It was eleven o'clock, Jonathan was done with work, and he could finally leave.
As soon as he got in the car, he unlocked his phone. He saw that Samantha hadn't replied to his message yet, he felt concerned and he sent another text which read: "Hey, Samantha, I just got off work. How was your first day at work?"
After waiting for a long time, she still didn't reply.
Due to professional habits, he quickly thought of the worse. Regardless of whether it would disturb her or not, he called her number.
"The user you dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." The mechanical female voice mixed with the quiet ambience of the parking lot made him feel worried.
Jonathan raised his eyebrows slightly, pulled his necktie, and he immediately dialed Pearl's number.
"Hello, who is it?" Pearl's sleepy voice answered.
"Pearl, can you go to Samantha's room? Like, right now please?" This calm and collected man was audibly panicking.
"Samantha?" After touching the child sleeping next to her, Pearl suddenly opened her eyes and was wide awake now. "Isn't she with you?"
Jonathan paused, his already red and tired eyes were completely focused again, "What do you mean?"
"Brother Xu, Samantha hasn't come back yet!"
"What?"
"Daniel is sleeping with me. If Samantha came back, she would've taken her child to sleep with her. I thought you two were dating. Jonathan, what should I do?"
Jonathan squeezed his phone firmly, "Don't panic. Go to her room first, maybe she was just too tired to take Daniel."
Pearl jumped out of her bed, she ran to Samantha's room barefoot, she turned on the lights, only to find that it was empty. She was so frightened that her legs went weak. "She's not here. Jonathan, are you sure you didn't eat with her?"
Jonathan was anxious, his veins could be seen on his forehead. He couldn't hesitate, Samantha hasn't gone home yet and she still had a son to take care of and a handsome man to marry.
"We just ate together. I already took her to the community to send her home. I just called to check if she was home yet. Ah, I see her, she is coming back here. I think I'll take her to my place. I'm sorry for bothering you."
"Ah… Brother Xu, don't scare me like that!" It was just a false alarm, she didn't think too much about it. She decided to go back to sleep.
Jonathan hung up the call in a hurry, he immediately called his friend in the cybersecurity department, and he requested the last known location of Samantha's phone.
"Chief, last seen at Xiangjiang Villa No. 20."
It's good to have power, results came out in seconds.
Near Xiangjiang Lake, a police vehicle suddenly arrived and quietly stopped at gate no. 20.
Half a minute later, George Yan and Fiona, who were still asleep, were awoken by Jonathan's sudden arrival.
"Don't move!" he yelled.
They couldn't see anything clearly, and Fiona was so frightened that she wet the bed.
"Who are you? What do you want? My son-in-law is Peter Xiao, president of NC Multinational group," George said boldly.
"I'm only giving you one chance to answer! Where is Samantha Yan?"
"Samantha? I don't know. She's not here." George really didn't know, but Jonathan's patience was limited, and he knocked him out with the butt of his gun.
"Don't kill us, please! Samantha! Samantha is at Peter Xiao's estate."
The pistol was holstered with finesse and skill. Jonathan turned and he jumped out of the second floor window, he landed smoothly along the outdoor pipeline, and he then drove straight to the Xiao Mansion.
The weather in March was absolutely terrible.
The peach blossoms fell from the night sky, it wasn't too early nor was it too late. The blossoms fell onto Samantha's face, and it also fell into Peter's hands. With the moon reflecting onto the bright blue water, both scenes were truly picturesque, as long as you ignored the cursing from earlier.
She got and looked around, and now snowflakes were falling alongside the peach blossoms. Samantha felt like the world was doing it on purpose, it was like the world was trying to make this desperate situation romantic.
Samantha was sitting on the rocks, and the blossoms on her head were glowing a faint pinkish-white under the moonlight while the snowflakes melted into water droplets on her hair. She was like a mermaid from the deep blue sea.
The crocodile had already left but she still didn't want to move.
A big snake on the rockery had awakened from hibernation, it hissed at her and she was frozen still. Samantha had a fear of snakes, and she didn't move a muscle so that the snake wouldn't strangle her. If she hadn't been drugged and beaten she would've tried to wrestle with the crocodile as a last resort, but she was entirely helpless against snakes.
Peter leaned on the railing of the patio with one arm, and his eyes stared straight at Samantha. He had a calm expression, but there was a war stirring in his heart, he was utterly confused. Seeing the woman's weak, helpless and pitiful appearance, he felt guilty, to be precise, he felt distressed.
Why does he feel this way?
Peter pursed his lips tightly. This ugly woman only wanted to steal his riches, he shouldn't feel anything for her.
Waiting for rescue while waiting for death was torturous, it was like surgery without anesthesia.
Samantha trembled uncontrollably. She suddenly saw the water ripple from the shore. The peach blossoms turned into fantastic jewels. It was Jonathan, the ripples were like halos as it travelled through the pond. Her majestic prince has come to rescue her, but alas, it was just an illusion, and he disappeared as soon as she blinked.
