Chapter 2 Marrying into the Martin Family
The nurse's eyes glowed with trepidation and fear. Her mouth mumbled, but she never spoke.
Regina's heart was broken. She had no idea Mandel could be so heartless.
She squeezed her phone, unsure who to call for assistance. There was no one in city who cared about anything for the two of them.
Just then, the phone's screen brightened. It came in the form of a text message "Please return home right away. There is something I need to talk about with you."
Regina's pupils were slightly contracting. The letter's sender was her biological father, Frank Miller.
Regina was framed by the Martin family and imprisoned two years ago. Frank was afraid of being drawn into the controversy and did not want to offend the Martins. He abandoned her mother on the day she was imprisoned. Her mother became seriously ill as a result of anxiety.
Regina gave a self-deprecating grin. She was about to ignore when her phone began to vibrate faintly again "It concerns your mother. Please come quickly."
The text message across the screen was thick with menace.
"What's the matter, Regina? Is something wrong here?"
Marina inquired, holding her breath.
"There are only a few minor issues. I'll first send you to a small clinic. For the time being, it may irritate you."
Regina had no choice but to make this move.
At Miller's house.
Regina approached the heavy black iron door and looked inside. She clearly saw a luxurious and elegant French-style villa standing.
But it appeared to her as a terrifying beast in the dead of night.
"Click..."
The door was pushed open.
"Regina? Are you out of jail?"
Aunt Brenda's mouth was open, and her eyes were wide with surprise and an unmistakable hint of disapproval.
No one would like a woman who had been in prison.
"Well, please notify them on my behalf."
Despite the fact that Regina's body was in pain, she straightened her back like a small white birch. Her tone was not patronizing.
"There is no need to notify. You can finish up outside. Don't dirty the door of the Miller house."
The lady put on her high heels and walked over. Her tone was disgusting, as if Regina would bring in the filthy air as soon as she stepped in.
"Madam."
Aunt Brenda bowed slightly.
"Frank hasn't yet returned home, so I'll speak for him. The Millers are in trouble right now, and only the Martin Group can assist them. But they have a condition: someone must marry Noah Martin, the Martin family's second son."
"If you marry there, Regina, you will undoubtedly be wealthy while remaining the wife of the Martin family. Many people can only dream of something like this."
The tone of Caroline softened slightly.
"Impossible." Regina laughed coldly.
The Martins were a well-known and powerful family in Los Angeles. The eldest son was attractive and talented, and he attracted a large number of celebrities and noblewomen.
No one, however, dared to approach the second son. It was all because he was insane and had a problem with his sanity.
According to rumors, the second son bit someone to death.
No one in Los Angeles would dare to marry him. No one would bury their entire lives as well as their happiness in this.
"You were the ones who initially drove me away. Only now, when you're in trouble, do you think of me, an outcast girl in prison for two years?"
"I've heard that Marina is about to pass away from illness. If you want her to be alright..." Caroline was not upset. Her tone was even calm, with a glimmer of confidence under her eyes.
"I promise you."
Regina bit her lip, closed her eyes, and spoke slowly.
At Martin's house.
The light red roof tiles, the high foyer, and the stone masonry at the corner all reflected the Martin family's grace and elegance.
The main door was a winding path away from the hall, and the three were still on their way.
Regina had not yet entered the hall when the afterglow caught sight of a figure. He was tall and thin, dressed in a wide blue and white striped suit.
He had a strawberry-flavored lollipop in his hand and was waving it around in the air. His demeanor was diametrically opposed to his good looks.
"This is Second Young Master."
The butler said.
A scrutinizing gaze emerged from the hall. This gaze was cold and condescending, as if surveying a commodity.
It was Mrs. Martin, Hannah.
"Regina, who was released a few days ago after serving two years in prison."
Hannah's tone was flat, but her face was condescending.
"Yes."
Regina was as calm as if she hadn't heard "sitting in jail for two years."
"Since you're marrying Noah, serve him well and have children for him. Stay by his side from now on, and don't lose him."
Hannah appeared to be giving orders to her servants, as if Regina were just a piece of merchandise she had purchased.
"I recommend you find him a nanny who will take better care of him than I do." Regina sneered and her heart filled with rage and humiliation.
"Are you trying to repent of your marriage, Regina?"
Caroline explained quickly, "I apologize, Mrs. Martin. She has a short fuse. Don't worry, she'll be fine and the marriage will be smooth."
Caroline smiled slightly pleasingly. Regina was no longer in the hall, so she quickly followed her.
She was afraid she'd backtrack.
She didn't see Regina until she got out of the door of Martin's house.
"Regina, do you really not want Marina's illness to improve? She became ill as a result of your imprisonment."
Regina came to a halt.
"Do you know who put me in jail back then?"
A thick hatred rolled violently under her eyes .
"Do you blame others for your incarceration?" Caroline's eyes flickered slightly. Her brow furrowed slightly.
Regina turned to leave and did not see a trace of malice flashing under Caroline's eyes.
The sun shone brightly.
Regina's lungs were clogged. She took out her phone and dialed Marina's number after exhaling.
No one answered.
She called a few more times, but there was still no answer.
A wave of bad luck washed over her. She immediately stopped a cab.
At the small clinic.
Regina rushed in and glanced at Marina's hospital bed, but no one was there.
"What exactly are you looking for? I recall this patient leaving a while ago. If she returns, I'll contact you."
The doctor finished and slowly put down his cup of tea.
"Thank you."
Regina expressed gratitude and hurriedly took out a pen and paper to jot down the phone number, which she handed to the doctor.
She took out her cell phone after leaving and made a dozen more calls, but there was still no answer.
The sun was setting like blood as dusk fell.
Regina's white and clean forehead was covered in fine sweat, and she was gasping for breath and heaving in her chest. Her fair complexion was flushed.
She had already looked for any place where Marina might be, but she couldn't find her.
A ringtone abruptly interrupted her undulating thoughts, and it was an unknown phone call.
"Don't you want to know where Marina is, Regina?"
It was Caroline.
"Did you take her?"
The pupils of Regina contracted violently. Her voice was hoarse, and her eyes were wide with terror.
"If you want to see Marina, come to me."
The person on the other end of the phone had hung up, and a mechanical sound rang in her ears.
