Chapter 14 Who Is He Looking For?
“It’s alright, Old Grand Master, it’s just a normal cold. I’ll just get myself a prescription from the pharmacist.” Claire hurriedly spoke up to stop him.
Old Grand Master Yeich stared at her with his sharp eyes. Claire felt goosebumps rise from his staring, and she subconsciously bit her lower lip.
“Your voice is so hoarse, how will you recover by just taking some pills?” However, Old Grand Master Yeich merely sighed before he waved his hand towards her, motioning for her to come nearer.
Claire took a few steps forward before coming to a careful stop.
“Remember to get your prescription. If you feel better later, remember to go check up on Mason at the office.”
Claire nodded. “Alright, Old Grand Master.”
“Alright.” Old Grand Master Yeich nodded in satisfaction. “You can go.”
After departing from the Yeich house, Claire made a call to Sophia. Sophia came quickly, arriving within twenty minutes.
As she boarded the car, Sophia asked, “So, have you considered? Are you getting the abortion?”
Claire did not say anything, fastening her seatbelt in silence.
“Why aren’t you talking?”
Sophia turned over to look at Claire. When she saw Claire sitting dazedly without an expression on her face, she wrinkled her delicate eyebrows. “What’s going on with you? Didn’t you think critically about this last night? Don’t tell me you want to keep this baby?”
Claire cradled her stomach with her hand as she heard her. “This is also a life. Wouldn’t it be too cruel to just kill it?”
“Hah, Claire Schmidt, are you joking with me? Weren’t your parents cruel when they made you take Yvonne’s place in getting married to a cripple? Was your ex-husband not cruel when he kept a mistress behind your back and kicked you out of the house? If you keep this child, the Yeich family will disown you. And do you think your parents will acknowledge you if you return to your maiden home?”
Sophia’s words were like a refresher. Claire abruptly raised her head to stare straight ahead.
“Listen to me, abort the baby. The Yeich family is your only lifeline now. Besides, you have no idea who this child is from, who knows what they’ll be like when they grow up?”
As she said that, Sophia had decided for Claire.
“As your best friend, I can only help you here. You’ll have to figure out the rest for yourself.”
Claire recalled what Mason had said last night. He had said he would give her three days, but he might not do that.
So… she had to abort the child?
If she wanted to continue staying with the Yeich family.
If she left the Yeich family, she could not return to the Schmidt family as well.
As she thought of that, Claire closed her eyes in pain. “Let’s go.”
“Done thinking? I’ll drive you to the hospital. Sophia turned the steering wheel as she said, “If this was a child conceived with your loved one, I wouldn’t object to you wanting to keep it. However, it’s a child from a stranger and you have no idea if keeping it is a good thing or a bad thing. The best way is to just abort it.”
The two remained in silence for the rest of the journey to the hospital.
As they waited, Claire’s mood did not improve. Sophia accompanied her all the way, talking to her comfortingly.
When it was finally her turn, the doctor wrinkled his forehead after examining her.
“Miss Schmidt, according to the results, the walls of your womb are exceptionally thin. An abortion would lead to perforation and hemorrhaging, so we do not recommend this abortion.”
Claire wrinkled her delicate eyebrows as she heard what he had said. Sophia, who had been standing at one side, started slightly. “She can’t have an abortion?”
“Yes, we don’t recommend it.” The doctor sighed lightly. “Why don’t you go back and think about it? Hemorrhaging is not something that should be taken lightly. Come back after you’ve discussed it.”
Sophia’s eyebrows were knotted together as they left the hospital. “What should you do if you can’t get an abortion? God, how can something be so annoying!”
“I don’t know either.”
“I’ll send you home.”
Claire nodded, then shook her head.
“No, I’ve got to get to the office. Why don’t you drop me off at the office?”
Sophia did not say much more and dropped her off obediently at the office. When she saw the main building of Yeich Group, Sophia could not help but sigh. “I thought my family was rich enough. I did not expect Yeich Group to exceed my expectations.”
“Soph, thank you for today. I’ll be going now.”
Sophia waved. “You go on first. I’ll contact some doctors on your behalf.”
Because she had been here before, the receptionists still had a clear memory of Claire, who had been brought upstairs personally by Vice President Yeich. Thus, when they saw Claire this time, they treated her with the utmost respect.
Claire successfully boarded the elevator and reached the president’s office on the top floor.
Taking gentle steps forward, she realized that the door to the office had not been shut today. She was just about to enter.
“The last time I asked you to find someone, you brought that woman to me. This time, you brought me a woman who’s an actual mother. Simon, am I being too lenient with you, or do you just not use your brain to execute orders anymore?”
Mason was sitting at his desk, his delicate fingers tapping on the desktop. A brilliant light was shining in his eyes, and an intimidating aura emanated from his body.
Simon stood in front of the desk to receive his recriminations. His head was hanging low and he looked like a scolded puppy
Claire instinctively hid behind the door when saw what was going on.
If Mason was so angry now, she would be dragged into this if she entered now. Might as well avoid that.
“Young Master Yeich, I didn’t do it on purpose. It’s just that you didn’t give me a lot of information, so I thought I might as well capture everyone instead of letting her go by accident.” Simon felt aggrieved. All these years with Mason, he usually dealt with work-related matters.
Even if any trouble cropped up, he could settle them quickly.
However, his mission now was to find a woman, a woman that he knew nothing about.
Looking for a pregnant woman in a hospital was not as easy as it sounded.
“I did not give you a lot of information? Don’t you know how to gather information yourself?” Mason laughed coolly, his sharp gaze turning dark as his fingers stopped their tapping. “Or are you blaming me?”
The cold tone made Simon straighten immediately and shake his head in denial.
“Nothing of that sort! Young Master Yeich, I’ll delegate more men to investigate. Next time, I’ll make sure to interrogate them before I bring them to you.”
“Interrogate?”
“Don’t worry, if it’s her, I promise she will not be hurt.”
“F*ck off.” After receiving an answer he was happy with, Mason tugged on his tie and made Simon leave.
Simon could not wait to be told to leave. It was so cold in the office, he could not stand it.
“Yes sir!”
Simon closed the door to the office after he left, then noticed Claire, who was standing by the wall when he turned around.
Their gaze met. Claire had just wanted to say something before she was pulled to another corner by Simon.
“Do you have a death wish? Eavesdropping on my conversation with Young Master Yeich?”
Claire shook her head when she heard that. “I just happened to drop by. Who is he looking for?”
It was natural for one to be curious.
Besides, Claire was his wife. It was natural that she would want to know about him.
Simon’s eyes narrowed at the question. “Miss Schmidt, I would advise you to not ask questions you should not ask. You were a substitute when you married into the Yeich family, and not considered as Young Master Yeich’s actual wife. If you continue to poke your nose into things, you might no longer be able to remain as Madam Yeich.”
