Mabel and Caleb immediately jumped off the swings and ran toward him.
Avery took each of them by the hand. "I knew I'd find you two here. How many times must I remind you to head straight back to class when lunchtime ends?
"And why haven't you been completing your homework properly these past few days?"
Having never attended school before, Mabel was unaccustomed to the classroom setting.
On the other hand, Caleb was raised abroad and lacked the ingrained respect for teachers most of his classmates possessed.
Their easygoing natures meant the scolding barely registered.
Fortunately, Avery was patient.
Seeing their indifferent response, he said resignedly, "Alright, I'll have to discuss this with your parents at next week's parent-child event."
