Chapter 101: Echoes of the Forgotten
Charles POV
"You’re sure?" My jaw tensed as I pressed. "It wasn’t just another pack?"
The scout gave a forceful shake of his head. "Charles, no. They differed from us. Not wolves. Not like anything we've ever seen. After a while of following them, they... vanished into the trees. They seemed to vanish into the darkness. I was unable to locate them. Not even able to hear them.
That wasn't typical. There was no wolf, rogue or otherwise, capable of doing that. The forest has ears and eyes. Furthermore, nothing could pass through undetected. It had slid right under our noses, though, whatever it was. My stomach turned at the thought.
My thoughts were racing as I turned and looked around the camp. "How many did you see?"
"Five. Six, perhaps. They were not arranged like a pack. They appeared to be moving in unison. No command. However, they were together.
