I looked at Ophelia standing before me and clenched my fists slightly. I knew that saying these words made me shameless.
There was no justification for the fact that I'd abandoned her and was now shamelessly begging her for help.
Yet, I had no choice but to give it a try for my mother's sake, even if it meant enduring Ophelia's scorn, mockery, or having my dignity crushed beneath my feet.
If I could save my mom, none of that mattered. My time was running out, and I needed to do something for her while I could.
I gritted my teeth and summoned the courage to speak again. "Can I get a year's salary in advance? I need it urgently."
The moment the words left my mouth, Ophelia laughed. She jeered, "Didn't you look in the mirror before leaving the house today? Or do you have no idea what you've become? Or perhaps your brain's so muddled that you've completely forgotten everything you've done?"
