When I arrived at the hospital, the nurse was trying to talk some sense into my mom.
When the nurse saw me, she said, "Mr. Parker, please talk to her."
As soon as my mom saw me, she got up and asked, "Thad, why did you lie to me? You told me that it was just a common cold, but it turned out to be something so serious!"
She'd lost a lot of weight in just a few days. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she looked at me, and my heart ached terribly. "I'm sorry, Mom. I didn't mean to. I was just afraid that you wouldn't be able to handle it."
