Chapter 28
"Everything's over between us."
This was the first thing Ophelia heard when she turned on the wiretap in the car. She hadn't caught any of the earlier conversation and only heard just this one sentence.
A complex mix of emotions, including disappointment and anger, flickered across her face.
Thaddeus had said it himself as clear as day, so that was that. Things were over between him and her. It was all meaningless now, no matter how beautiful the memories had been or how deeply they'd loved, especially when Thaddeus had lied and hurt her so deeply.
All her expectations, along with any lingering hope that she could understand his side of the story, vanished in an instant.
She turned off the wiretap in frustration.
